Inside a glasshouse restored around its pines

When the owners bought the glasshouse, the first thing the architect suggested was cutting down two of the pines. They said no, and the house was rebuilt around them.

Working with the trees

Every opening frames a trunk or a branch. The pool is narrow and long, laid between roots, and the terrace is raised on timber so nothing was cut.

What it cost

The restoration took eighteen months. The owners say the trees were worth every week of it.
