A good brief makes a good beginning.
This is a practical commissioning checklist for custom books, photo albums and fitted boxes. It does not offer restoration or conservation assessment.
01 / Describe the purpose
What should the object hold, and how will it be handled? Choose a sample object and note what you want it to do.
02 / Measure the contents
Record height, width and thickness in millimetres. For a book, note whether the pages are loose or already bound, their number and how they are printed.
03 / Prepare useful photographs
Take an overall view, front and back, an edge view showing thickness and a close view of any relevant detail. Use even light, include a ruler for scale and avoid sharing private pages. There is no upload in this demo.
04 / Share constraints
A budget range and deadline help the maker discuss scope. Sample lead times are not delivery promises. The maker confirms materials, dimensions and schedule before a commission begins.
05 / Agree the actual work
The real studio supplies a quotation, specification, delivery terms and any approvals needed. The demo planner is a way to review a sample brief; it sends nothing.
