This side of the painting was completely exposed in 2015. Previously it was partially covered all around by a wedge frame about 8 cm wide. Since then, the canvas is in an "outer stretcher" and is fully visible from both sides.
The common crude "Brücke" style, dominated by the rediscovered woodcut and fully developed around 1910, with which the group caused a sensation in the same year in the Dresden Arnhold Gallery, is hardly shown in any other painting by Erich Heckel so directly, just "directly and unadulterated", as the "Brücke" manifesto of 1906 had demanded. A comparison with the self-designed and self-produced catalog of this exhibition makes this obvious. That is precisely the special feature of reverse paintings, whose fascination we cannot and must not escape, namely that they show the original state, the first idea, in this case of the year 1910 without any later intervention.

Siddi, the then girlfriend and later wife of Erich Heckel, sits with propped up arm to the right in the reddish sand of the foreground, probably the shore of one of the Moritzburg ponds, where the bridge friends spent the summer months of 1910 with their models. Among them this time was the young Fränzi, here standing to the left of Siddi in blue dress. Both are framed and back-caught by three green bushes which, strangely compactly formed, incline around them. The whole before a high deep blue sky.

Hüneke 1911-15

Erich Heckel spent the summer of 1911 on the Baltic Sea peninsula Darss, a part of the "Darss-Zingster-Boddenkette". "Bodden" are shallow lakes of various sizes and with numerous bays or channels, They are located south of elongated islands or peninsulas of the Baltic Sea of varying width. Such a narrow bay or channel with a bridge and a srasse are seen here between green fields or meadows and trees and forests of the Darss in the background.
